Meloxicam
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) widely used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which plays a key role in the production of prostaglandins—compounds that mediate inflammation and pain. Meloxicam’s selective inhibition of COX-2 over COX-1 makes it less likely to cause gastrointestinal side effects compared to other NSAIDs, though such risks are not entirely eliminated. Available in oral and injectable forms, Meloxicam offers flexibility in dosing and administration, catering to patient needs and preferences. It is known for its long half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing, which enhances patient compliance. As with all NSAIDs, it should be used with caution in individuals with cardiovascular, renal, or hepatic conditions, and under medical supervision to monitor for potential adverse effects.
